Terms of Service & Community Guidelines

Last updated: May 2026

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) and Community Guidelines govern your use of Jiran, an invite-only neighborhood platform. By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using Jiran, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Zero tolerance. Jiran has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. Posting hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, violent, illegal, or child-endangering content will result in immediate account termination. There are no warnings, and there is no path back to the platform.

1

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Jiran. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or guardian's permission. Each Jiran invite is tied to a verified residential address; using a stolen, transferred, or otherwise unauthorized invite is grounds for termination.

2

Your account

You are responsible for everything that happens on your account. Do not share your password, do not let others post from your phone, and contact us immediately if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

You may delete your account at any time from the app: open My Profile → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent — your profile, posts, marketplace listings, announcements, ratings, and chat history will be removed and cannot be restored.

3

What you may not post or do

You agree that you will not post, share, send, or otherwise distribute, and will not solicit or facilitate, content of the following kinds:

4

Reporting and blocking

Jiran provides every user with two tools to keep their feed safe:

The Jiran moderation team reviews every report and takes action — including removing content and ejecting offending users — typically within 24 hours of receiving the report.

5

Enforcement

Violations of these Terms may result in any of the following, at Jiran's sole discretion: removal of the offending content; warnings; temporary suspension of features; permanent account termination; cooperation with law enforcement; and reports to relevant authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) for CSAE content.

6

Content you post

You retain ownership of the content you post on Jiran. By posting, you grant Jiran a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content within the app for the purpose of operating the service. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backup copies retained for a reasonable period for legal or operational reasons.

7

Marketplace and services

Jiran connects neighbors who want to buy, sell, or hire each other for services. Jiran is not a party to those transactions and does not verify, endorse, or guarantee the quality, legality, or accuracy of any listing or any professional. You are solely responsible for the dealings you enter into through Jiran.

The "Emergency" feature is not a government emergency service

IMPORTANT — LIFE-SAFETY DISCLAIMER. The feature in the app labeled "Emergency" is a neighbor-to-neighbor service-professional dispatch tool. When a user submits a request through this feature, the request is routed to nearby Jiran-verified residents whose registered profession matches the category selected (for example, electrician, plumber, doctor on call, locksmith). The accepting user is a private individual — your neighbor — not a government emergency responder, not a paramedic, not a police officer, not a firefighter.

Jiran does NOT dispatch ambulances, fire trucks, police, civil defense, or any other government or first-responder service. Jiran does not have any agreement, integration, or formal relationship with any government emergency authority anywhere in the world. The dispatched user is not licensed, trained, certified, or required to respond, and may decline or ignore the request without notice.

For any life-threatening emergency — including but not limited to medical emergencies, fires, crimes in progress, traffic accidents, or any situation in which a person is at risk of serious harm or death — you must contact your local government emergency services immediately and directly.

In Lebanon: Civil Defense 125, Lebanese Red Cross 140, Internal Security Forces 112, Fire Department 175.

If you live outside Lebanon, contact your country's local emergency number. Jiran will never replace these services. By using the Jiran "Emergency" feature, you acknowledge and agree that Jiran is not responsible for the response, response time, quality of help, outcome, or any harm of any kind that may result from your use of this feature. The location information shared by this feature (your building, compound, and city) is provided as a convenience to help your neighbor find you, but Jiran does not guarantee the accuracy or delivery of this information to the accepting user.

9

Premium features

Jiran is currently free to use during a launch trial period. Some features may be marked as "premium" and may require a subscription in the future. Pricing, billing, and trial terms will be presented clearly in the app at the point of any purchase, and any subscription will be processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play in accordance with their respective terms.

10

No warranty; limitation of liability

Jiran is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, Jiran disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Jiran's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid Jiran in the 12 months preceding the claim, or USD 50, whichever is greater.

11

Changes to these Terms

Jiran may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of Jiran after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
